Italians in Sports - Annual Dinner

ALTO held its 5th annual Italians in Sport dinner on Wednesday, 8 August 2018, at Caterina's Cucina e Bar in the Melbourne CBD. It proved to be a most enjoyable and entertaining night, once again hosted by well-known sports broadcaster, Tony Schibeci.

This year's event was highlighted by some wonderful interviews with three very engaging special guests. AFLW premiership player and WNBL premiership player, Monique Conti, showed maturity beyond years as she spoke of the challenges she has faced to already become a leading professional sportswomen in Australia. We heard some riveting stories from Simon Prestigiacomo about his career at the Collingwood Football Club, including his relationship with Mick Malthouse and the previously untold amazing story about Presti's missed grand final in 2010. Finally, we heard some fascinating insights about the state of football (soccer) in Australia from one of its leading statesman, sports entrepreneur Lou Sticca, who is responsible for bringing some of the biggest names (including Alessandro Del Piero) and biggest teams to Australia.

The evening also featured a special live auction featuring items signed by the likes of Federer, Nadal, Schumacher, Ronaldo and Dustin Martin. The biggest hit of the auction was Valentino Rossi's signed helmet, which fetched a whopping $1600. Approximately $550 was raised for the Cabrini Italians of Melbourne charitable foundation.

A very special thank you to all our guests and to the entire team at Caterina's – particularly Caterina Borsato and Elena Leardini – for all their hospitality and ensuring that our 90-odd guests were kept well-fed and well-hydrated throughout the evening! A huge thank you must also go to our event sponsors, without which the evening wouldn't be possible: Bertocchi, That's Amore Cheese, Vino Bambino, Roasting Warehouse Coffee and Gallery of Legends.
